The Blueberry season typically lasts about 6 weeks (early July-mid August), and traditionally overlaps the end of Raspberry season (late June-late July) and the beginning of Peach season (mid July - late September). Chauncey Merriman, an early settler of Southington and a veteran of the Revolutionary War, purchases a farm from Ebenezer Evans on the southern end of Shuttle Meadow Lake. They begin to farm the land that is now known as Rogers Orchards.

Anson Merriman and wife Jerusha take a risk by planting 1,000 Baldwin apple trees, knowing nothing of their market value. Anson also plants an acre of cucumbers, intending to start a pickle business. His efforts earn him the nickname "Old Pickles".

Josiah and his wife Anna maintain what at the time was the largest apple orchard in the state. A leading horticulturist, Josiah served as President of the Connecticut Pomological Society. His daughter Sarah would marry Elijah Rogers, giving the farm it's current namesake.

Elijah and Sarah Rogers dare to plant 7,000 peach trees, one of the first farmers in Connecticut to grow peaches on such a scale. Elijah served in the General Assembly in 1907 and United States Senate in 1921, where he was made chairman of the committee on agricuture.
