A quintessential cottage in the middle of greenery. Attention to details was impeccable! It was a cozy, quiet and comfortable respite from our concrete jungle routine.

This wonderful place felt like a quaint, Parisian getaway in the country. If you like a rustic, cozy cottage that's warm and inviting, you will love Windy Top. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The space is well appointed with many nice touches -- peonies were in season so they brought us a bouquet from the garden. The sweet's bar was a pleasant surprise, with ample tea and coffee options. We added on Breakfast in Bed which was very nice, and we also ordered the picnic lunch for two which was delicious! Ken and Dawn are great hosts; very accommodating.

The Windy Top Cottage is an old stone building constructed in 1932 by H. L. Bitter, a wealthy Hartford businessman. This area of Granby was a favorite of the Hartford elite for a place to “summer” in the early part of the 20th Century. The cottage was the place where the domestic staff stayed when the family was staying in North Granby. With an elevation of 970, the home once had views of Hartford. Today after lots of trees grew, views are still just a minute away and the cool breezes remain!

Dawn and Ken have refreshed the interior with newly sanded "pumpkin pine" floors and warm, decorator wall tones. The bath fixtures are original from the 30s and the huge stone fireplace has propane fired gas logs for cozy winter nights. The large first-floor great room also has a small coffee service with a 1935 Fridgidaire refrigerator filled with cold drinks.

The second-floor bedrooms are spacious and yet very cozy. The home has an English Country House feel with all furnishings provided by Dawn’s painted furniture business: A Girl With A Paintbrush. Flower boxes adorn several windows that overlook an herb and flower garden. The property is accessed by original brick walkways and lead to the private entry door.

Guests will be able to use the entire building with the exception of the garage bays for their private use. A private exterior patio is located out the back door with old motel chairs, benches, and a firepit.

Amenities include freshly laundered soft cotton bedding and towels, bath robes, hypo allergenic or goose down pillows, cozy sofas, and chairs, comfortable carpeting, and rugs. The linen closet has an ample supply of bar soaps, shampoos, a hair dryer and a first aid box.

The spaces are accessorized with old framed artwork, mirrors, clocks and folk art. We offer a quiet, relaxing experience without TV, limited internet access but offer books, old magazines, and games so you can enjoy a special time with friends or loved ones.

The coffee service provides a toaster oven, an espresso machine, a French press and a Keurig single cup coffee maker with fresh cream and organic sugar.

Our goal is to greet you and then leave you to enjoy the cottage and all the surrounding amenities and beauty at your leisure. We live in the main house so we are always available by text or cell phone.

The beds are "antique style" King or a vintage double bed. The loveseat in Living Room also has a sleeper sofa for a 5th guest. We provide a complete list of emergency info in the unlikely event that you would need it.

The exterior patio out the rear door is covered by an awning and has solar twinkle lights. The firepit makes great campfires for grilling hot dogs and making S'Mores.

Located in an area with breathtaking views of Massachusetts (walk just a little more than a half mile to the amazing Mary Edwards Property), this area Connecticut is known for its working dairy farms, apple orchards, farm wineries and is a horse loving community.

Our beautiful community also offers self-serve farm stands, waterfalls, hiking trails, homemade ice cream stores, country libraries as well as upscale evening dining and art galleries. We include a local guide book for your convenience.

Friendly staff and service. Bartenders at L Bar were entertaining and fun

I have children who attend Trinity College so I often stay at this fabulous hotel. I enjoy my stay here because the staff are welcoming, the rooms are nice, and the food and bar service are very good.

Nice little overnight stay in Hatford. Close to great restaurants, great view and very nice room.


Love this hotel! L Bar is great for a cocktail and dinner, breakfast buffet is very good


On the way to New Haven we spent the night in Hartford. Staff let us get in the room early after a red eye. Very much appreciated.

Starbucks right there in the lobby made it easy to wake up again.
