He earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma and completed an internship in surgery and medicine at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, CT. He completed a four-year residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. He then completed a three-year residency in dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Following his residency in dermatology, Dr. Fortier spent a year on staff at Henry Ford Hospital. He completed a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Fortier has been in private practice in Connecticut for more than 30 years and is affiliated with Hartford Hospital.
