4worldlovers: As the shadows grow longer, we face the inevitable: the close of another boating season. However, the final days of summer and early days of fall may still provide some good boating weather. Let’s hope.

Important update: At the last General Body meeting I presented two written documents to the body. The first was a draft of the capital needs that my committee has formulated to address major considerations for the Club. The draft delineated a 6–7-year plan for the anticipated costs of most of the projects. It is clear that our current coffers cannot possibly fund all these improvements. We have already begun our goal with the paving and striping of the parking lot. We now have a much safer surface for members, guests and events.

The next planned projects are the replacement of our AC/Heating unit and re-roofing our present roof. Both of these are priority items. The plan is to get these done early next year. Cost will be approximately $28,000 for the AC/Heating unit and $75,000 for the new roof.

Projects that are currently ongoing are the resurfacing of the docks, additional flotation for the bubblers and additional flotation for docks A and C where the electric panels are located.

The final two big pieces will be the refurbishing of the Bar Room followed by the Meeting Room.

It is important that we plan on meeting the expenses of these projects and other unforeseen expenses over the next 6-7 years with additional revenue. There will be recommendations for SMALL increases in some fees. The guideline for use of these additional funds will be 60% for dredging and 40% for capital improvements.

Hello October & hello autumn. September is out and soon we will begin to see boats coming out of the water for their long winter’s rest. Where did the time go?

Congratulations to Kristie (Shomsky) & Logan Harsh on their marriage this past September. Help me in wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness together!

I have also heard from my LAX partner in crime, Karen Kolenda-Gregory, that there will be another wedding coming up this weekend for the son of another LAX member – details to come next newsletter.

Our sympathy is sent to our LAX member Janet Marino on the loss of her father and sending prayers for a speedy recovery to another LAX member, Lois Holley, who is home recovering from a surgery.

Please keep our friends that are ill or fallen on tough times in our thoughts and prayers.

This month the Ladies Auxiliary are busy planning for our Annual Meet and Greet Event/Dinner/Raffle with six other Ladies Auxiliary Clubs from Pequonneck to South Norwalk Boat Club. It will be held on Wednesday, October 18th. We are requesting all other Club attendees to donate personal items, diapers, etc so we can donate to the Center for Family Justice in Bridgeport which has a huge need. We are also requesting Miamogue members to please donate items to the box in the bar. Please make your contribution by October 22nd. Also, if you would like to donate a gift card or an item for our Chinese Auction, we would be very grateful.

LAX thanks all who bought tickets and supported our Family Day Raffle of the pizza oven. There seemed to be a lot of interest, especially from Mecca who desperately wanted that pizza oven. Mecca's ticket was not called; Charlie and Heather Carrano won and so graciously turned it over to Mecca to make her day! We hope your children enjoyed the inflatables, games, etc.

Book your reservation on line, or if it’s last minute, over the phone, and simply show up to the dock and enjoy the water. For our members who love to fish, we are more than happy to make arrangements so that they can get out on the water early in the morning. We also have a boat with a cabin in our fleet that is available for overnight trips.

Avoid the financial and time cost of owning a boat so that you can spend more time on the water creating new memories with your friends and family. When you get back to the dock you can be on your way, no hosing down, emptying garbage cans, covering the boat or worrying about fuel.

All Carefree members are trained by licensed Captains to be capable and competent boaters, at no additional cost to the member. In fact there are no hidden fees at all! All that our members pay for is their membership and fuel usage.
