Horizons GFA starts early: PreK-8 students focus on building the foundational skills critical to life-long success. Our programming closes learning gaps, builds academic skills and develops social-emotional skills in a culture of high expectations and nurturing relationships. Students develop confidence, self-esteem, and motivation to strengthen their school performance while learning to maintain a positive attitude and build strong relationships.




One-on-one mentoring to build on the gains of the PreK-8 years: Horizons GFA high school students receive individual support from a carefully matched academic coach/mentor to continue to develop the academic and SEL skills needed for high school success. To prepare for the next step, students receive extensive SAT prep and support from a college advisor who helps them and their families navigate the college admission and financial aid process.

It's hard to be first: over two-thirds of Horizons GFA high school graduates are first-generation college students. Due to academic gaps, cultural differences and financial obstacles, the post-secondary completion rate of first-generation students in the U.S. is as low as 11%. Horizons GFA's College Success Program supports students in areas that most often challenge first-generation students so they successfully persist toward their degree.
