4worldlovers: The Tia Russell Dance Studio, commonly known as TRDS, is a privately owned dance education program and dance studio primarily servicing the Greater New Haven CT Area. We welcome new and experienced students ages 18 months - Adult and offer various styles of dance including Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, West African, Hip Hop, Tap, Modern, Lyrical & Acro Dance. TRDS was established in 2013 and has grown to be a large organization, with hundreds of students and two locations in Woodbridge, CT. We are best known for our jaw dropping performances, dynamic choreography, trained staff, and professional facilities. Our main priority is to provide a safe, professional and clean environment for our students to enjoy while participating in the beloved art of dance. At Tia Russell Dance Studio, we strive to provide a quality dance experience for all of our students.

Ballet consists of technique-based classes focusing on posture, balance, self-discipline, grace, self-confidence, fitness, and individual expression.

Acro dance classes combine classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements.

This up-beat, high energy hip hop class concentrates on the fundamentals of Hip-Hop movement.

Jazz dance is fast-paced, energetic and rhythmic form of dance. Classes focus on isolations of the body and reflects a person’s emotions through movements like shaking, twisting, and swinging.

Classes are active and use the concept of total body articulation. Dancers will learn fancy footwork, jumps, and intricate head and body movements.

Lyrical classes are a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques and individual expression.

Modern dance classes are technique classes designed to correct and improve dancer’s physical limitations so that they might pursue any form of dance.

"I started at TRDS in 2013 after years of trying out extra activities that I couldn’t seem to stick with. When I started dancing and met Ms. Tia, Mr. James, and their smaller staff at the time I instantly knew dance was something I wanted to do. Although it was hard in the beginning, their investment in us growing as dancers and their reassurance kept me going. I was taking every class you could think of and had the opportunity to be one of the few students who started taking pointe with Ms. Tia. Dance became my outlet to express how I felt physically instead of verbally. After losing my mom in 2016, the first place I went to was the dance studio. Being surrounded by staff and friends who were loving and sincere brought me comfort, they had become my family. The Twinkle Star Dance program is a unified and vetted teaching curriculum for Young Children — ages 2–6 — to learn the fundamentals of dance.


Our classical ballet program is based on the Vaganova method. Students progress overtime through each level appropriate to their age and ability.
